DescriptionKept by Richard Burton between the ages of 14 and 15, while he was living at the home of his sister Cecilia ('Cis') and Elfed James in Taibach, Port Talbot. Entries are short but almost every day is recorded.

Relates daily activities including: schoolwork, playing sports (particularly rugby football), attending Noddfa Chapel and hearing the sermons of Dr Gwilyn Rees and other preachers, going to the cinema, his reading, odd jobs collecting old newspapers and collecting horse dung for farmers' fertiliser and trips to Pontrhydyfen to see relatives.

Comprises various references to the Second World War, such as his experiences of air raids, receiving letters from his brother Will and others who are on active service, the resignation of Nevil Chamberlain, the German invasion of Holland, Luxembourg and Belgium and fears over the German advance nearing Great Britain.

Also details Richard's relationships with his siblings and extended family and friends. Several references to Philip Burton.
